Introduction

The arrangement of research affairs of petrochemical industries in the form of the establishment of Research and Development General Affairs was fulfilled in 1998.

 The necessity of research in petrochemical industries caused the Research and Development General Affairs to proceed with its activities in the form of Petrochemical Research and Technology Company (NPC-RT Company) since 2003, pursuing fundamental applied research and formulation of economical know-how based on the requirements of National petrochemical industries. This company is custodian of the definition, approval, performance and supervision of research projects in petrochemical industries and comprises three centers i.e. Tehran centre (with the mission to implement applied and customer-oriented research), Arak centre (with the mission to perform applied research in pilot plants) and Special Zone centre (with the mission to implement technical and applied research in pilot plants). Concerning the research priorities of project definition and implementation, R and D departments of petrochemical complexes work under the surveillance of NPC-RT Company.

Tehran centre is subdivided into Polymer, Nonpolymer and Catalyst research groups as well as Customer-oriented and Engineering & Technical departments.

The polymer research group conducts fundamental research in the field of polymer specifically poly olefin and Ziegler-Natta catalysts.

The non-polymer research group chiefly focuses on formulation of olefin, DME, PDH, MTP and acetic acid know-how and cooperation with petrochemical complexes aiming to solve their process problems.

The catalyst research group has been doing extensive research on PVM, dehydrogenation, Methanol … catalysts.

The customer-oriented department is active in giving services to the customers of NPC, providing technical data, customer satisfaction, production and development of petrochemical product applications.

Using the expertise of in-house researchers and experts as well as the potential, experience and effort of its active staff, the engineering and technical department has taken the responsibility of design, fabrication and commissioning of research set-ups required by NPC-RT Company and universities and achieved remarkable accomplishments in design and fabrication meeting international standards.

Being located around Tehran in the vicinity of reputable universities and research centers, the presence of knowledgeable experts in this centre and the utilization of state-of-the-art equipment have been facilitated. In the one hand the tireless effort made by the staff and in the other hand the software and hardware potential, will make NPC-RT Company one of the most reputable and efficient industrial research centers around the world in close future.
